PVC Geomembrane

SIGMA PVC geomembrane is a non-reinforced, homogeneous flexible polyvinyl chloride liner produced to the ASTM D7176-06 specification (cross-referenced with PGI-1104). Compounded from PVC resin with plasticizers, fillers, antioxidants and UV absorbers, this PVC liner is highly flexible, conforms easily to detailed shapes and seams readily by hot-air welding or cold adhesive. Supplied as a PVC pond liner from PVC10 (10 mil) through PVC60 (60 mil) — including the popular 20 mil, 30 mil and 40 mil PVC liner grades — it is well suited to ponds, canals, reservoirs, landfill covers and exposed waterproofing.

Flexible PVC geomembrane built to ASTM D7176

SIGMA PVC geomembrane is a non-reinforced, homogeneous polyvinyl chloride waterproofing membrane made by compounding PVC resin with plasticizer, filler, antioxidant and a UV-light absorber. The result is a soft, highly flexible PVC liner that conforms to corners and detailed shapes far more easily than a rigid sheet, while still meeting the ASTM D7176-06 / PGI-1104 property requirements grade by grade. Joints can be hot-air welded into one integrated waterproof layer or sealed with cold adhesive in the field.

Why buyers choose this PVC liner

This PVC pond liner offers high tensile strength, good elongation and a low thermal dimensional change rate, with proven aging resistance — it has passed 800 hours of artificial accelerated-weathering testing and is built for a service life beyond 25 years. Because the membrane stays flexible it is simple to install and easy to handle around penetrations and detailed treatments. It can be left exposed, and a light-colored surface reflects sunlight so the sheet absorbs less heat. As a flexible alternative to a rigid HDPE pond liner, PVC excels where tight folds and shape conformance matter.

Thickness grades and where they are used

We supply the PVC geomembrane in six grades from PVC10 (0.25 mm / 10 mil) to PVC60 (1.52 mm / 60 mil). Thinner 20 mil PVC liner suits garden and fish ponds, planters and ornamental pools; the 30 mil PVC liner is the popular all-round grade for fish ponds, canals and a PVC membrane pool liner; the 40 mil PVC liner and heavier grades are common for irrigation reservoirs and pool liners, while 50 mil and 60 mil PVC liner handle landfill covers and heavier hydraulic head. Gray or black is standard (other colors by agreement), with smooth or embossed surfaces. See the full geomembrane range to compare PVC against HDPE liner for your project.

How the PVC liner is made and seamed

The membrane is calendered from PVC resin compounded with plasticizer, filler, antioxidant and a UV-light absorber, which is what gives this polyvinyl chloride liner its flexible thermoplastic character. Because it stays thermoplastic, panels are joined by hot-air welding into one integrated waterproof layer with a secure, reliable seam, while cold adhesive is used for repairs, detail work and field joints. Welded overlaps mean fewer joints and a continuous barrier, and the same flexibility makes joining PVC pond liner sections and dressing penetrations far simpler than working a rigid sheet. For larger or buried containment many buyers move to an HDPE geomembrane seamed entirely by welding.

Performance, durability and where PVC wins

Beyond flexibility, the PVC liner is strongly adaptable to ambient temperature change, keeps excellent low-temperature flexibility, and resists chemicals, grease and UV light. Its outstanding rooting resistance means the membrane can also be applied in planted and green roofs without root penetration. As a heavy duty PVC pond liner it is cost-effective and convenient to maintain over a service life beyond 25 years. Compared with a rigid HDPE sheet or a pond liner hard plastic option, PVC is the choice wherever tight folds, shape conformance and easy field handling matter most; where maximum chemical resistance for landfill or aggressive containment is the priority, we point buyers to HDPE.

Sizes, colors and ordering

Each PVC geomembrane is available as a smooth or embossed PVC liner sheet in gray or black, with other colors by agreement, and supplied on rolls — roll width and length are set per order, so we cut to the area your project needs rather than to fixed pre-cut sizes. As the manufacturer we sell direct, quoting a PVC liner price ex-works by the square metre or per roll. Tell us the grade (for example 20 mil, 30 mil or 40 mil PVC liner), the total pond or canal area and your destination port, and we will return a quotation; matching PVC pond liner adhesive and accessories can be supplied alongside the rolls.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a PVC pond liner and an HDPE liner?

PVC geomembrane is far more flexible than HDPE, so a PVC pond liner conforms to corners, folds and detailed shapes more easily and is simpler to handle on small or irregular ponds. HDPE is stiffer but offers higher chemical resistance for landfill and aggressive containment. We supply both and will recommend the right liner for your application.

What thickness of PVC liner should I use — 20, 30 or 40 mil?

A 20 mil PVC liner suits garden and ornamental ponds and planters; 30 mil PVC liner is the popular all-round choice for fish ponds and canals; 40 mil PVC liner and above is used for reservoirs, pool liners and landfill covers where extra puncture resistance is needed. Tell us the application and we will recommend a grade from PVC10 to PVC60.

Is this PVC geomembrane made to ASTM D7176?

Yes. Every grade is produced to the ASTM D7176-06 standard specification for non-reinforced PVC geomembranes used in buried applications, cross-referenced with PGI-1104 for seam strength. Tensile, tear, hydrostatic and seam values meet or exceed the table above when tested by the designated ASTM methods.

Can the PVC liner be left exposed, and how is it seamed?

Yes — the membrane can be used exposed, and its light-colored surface reflects sunlight so it absorbs less heat. It has passed 800 hours of accelerated weathering for a service life beyond 25 years. Joints are made by hot-air welding into one integrated waterproof layer, with cold adhesive available for repairs and detail work.

What does a PVC pond liner cost?

PVC liner price depends mainly on thickness grade (20 mil vs 30 mil vs 40 mil), roll size and order volume. As the manufacturer we quote ex-works per square metre or per roll; send us the grade, total area and destination port and we will return a PVC geomembrane price the same business day.

What roll sizes and minimum order do you offer?

Roll width and length are set per order rather than fixed pre-cut sizes, so we cut to your pond, canal or pool area. As the manufacturer we keep minimums sensible for export — tell us the grade and total square metres and we will confirm roll dimensions and the minimum order quantity for your project.

What is the lead time and can you handle ocean shipping?

Lead time depends on the grade, total area and current production load; we confirm a date when we quote. The PVC geomembrane ships rolled and palletised for sea freight, and we arrange ex-works, FOB or CIF to your destination port. Share the area and port and we will include packing and shipping in the quotation.

Can this PVC liner be used on a planted or green roof?

Yes. The membrane has outstanding rooting resistance, so it can be applied under planted and green roofs as well as for exposed roof and structure waterproofing, and it resists chemicals, grease and UV light. Tell us the build-up and we will recommend a thickness grade.
