GCL

Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL)

Our GCL range covers the needle-punched geosynthetic clay liner and the composite PE-laminated GCL. As a GCL liner manufacturer and supplier we encapsulate sodium bentonite clay between geotextiles to GRI-GCL3, so the bentonite clay liner self-seals into a low-permeability barrier for landfill, pond and containment lining.

What is a geosynthetic clay liner?

A geosynthetic clay liner is a factory-made hydraulic barrier of sodium bentonite clay sandwiched and needle-punched between a woven and nonwoven geotextile. When hydrated the bentonite swells and self-seals, giving the geo clay liner a very low permeability comparable to a thick compacted clay layer in just a few millimetres. The geotextiles carry the clay and add the shear strength needed on slopes.

GRI-GCL3, PE-laminated GCL and where they are used

We manufacture the geosynthetic clay liner to the GRI-GCL3 standard for use as a primary or composite barrier in landfill base and capping, pond and lagoon lining, secondary containment and canal works. The PE-laminated GCL bonds a polyethylene film to one face for extra protection and lower permeability where chemistry or low overburden demands it. See our geosynthetic clay liner and PE-laminated GCL, often paired beneath an HDPE geomembrane in composite lining systems.
